Upon the occasion of the Craft of Unknown Origin crashing north of Roswell, in early July of 1947, "Major Thomas" and his men, including "TWX Pancho," (code names) were called to Roswell to take part in the viewing of the radar screens at Alamogordo Training Air Base and the subsequent searching for and carrying off the crashed vehicle and its passengers. The final report of the disposition of the code-named "Flying Disc E-723" is part of the records which the GAO Report of 1995 claims were destroyed by persons unknown, and authorized by persons unknown: all parts of the records of the 509th that were destroyed for the period from 1947 through 1949. First Lieutenant Robert Shirkey was soon to be promoted to Captain. As Assistant Group Operations Officer of the 509th Bomb Group at Roswell Army Air Field, he watched the crash site debris being carried through the Operations Building and loaded on the waiting B-29 aircraft. Nine days later, he received a TWX: his career radically changed. Frank Kaufinann is one of the last eye-witnesses to the crash as perceived on radar and to the crash site hours later. He was discharged from his assignment with the U.S.A.F. on 31 October 1947.The next day, he was recalled to active duty as a "civilian," assigned to live in Roswell; he worked for the Roswell Chamber of Commerce for thirty years. Though unable to reveal the "secrets," he has been popular among media people, researchers, and other authors, many of whom have embellished or interpreted his statements. His contribution to this book is unique because he is able to relate to the author as a peer whom he could trust to use his information responsibly. All who know these men would attest to their integrity. On this basis, we have assisted in the completion of this book.
